Touch Assignment

Basking. Approx. 12"L X 8"W X 6"H. Found objects
"And, though some of us like adventure travel, most prefer to sit in the sun like a rack of spareribs, basting ourselves regularly with sauce, and quietly frying, taking care to turn over so we'll be cooked on both sides" (A Natural History Of The Senses by Diane Ackerman)
In response to the quote above, I saw a pig laying on the beach with barbecue sauce as tanning lotion. I used sand and water with other small objects to create a simple yet thorough visual of the description on how humans enjoy baking in the sun.

Skinny. Approx. 4.5" X 9". Acrylic paint on found objects.
"Years ago, I read about a boy who had to live in a bubble (designed by NASA) because of the weakness of his immune system and his susceptibility to disease. We are all that boy. The bubble is our skin. But the skin is also alive, breathing and excreting, shielding us from harmful rays and microbial attack, metabolizing vitamin D, insulating us from heat and cold, repairing itself when necessary, regulating blood flow, acting as a frame for our sense of touch, aiding us in sexual attraction, defining our individuality, holding all the thick red jams and jellies inside us where they belong." (A Natural History Of The Senses By Diane Ackerman)
For this piece I wanted to replicate the idea of a boy in a bubble. The idea of skin acting as a protective bubble is weirdly fascinating. I used a skin tone paint and brushed a light coat on the inside of the glass So upon closer inspection, the human inside would be noticeable.
